Harville Hendrix, Ph.D. and Helen LaKelly Hunt, Ph.D.
Authors and Co-creators of Imago Relationship Therapy

Imago Relationship Therapyis a system of theory and practical skills to help couples work through conflict and build deeper connection. I have found it to be a very effective approach for working with couples and use it in my practice. People sometimes ask me if I invented it (I wish!). Here is some information about the people who did.

Harville Hendrix Ph.D. and his wife, Helen LaKelly Hunt Ph.D., co-created Imago Relationship Therapy which focuses on practical skills and tools to build or repair connection, to use communication about conflict for deeper connection and win-win approaches, and for the healing and growth of both individuals and the marriage or relationship.

Harville is a psychotherapist and Clinical Pastoral Counselor with a degree from Union Theological Seminary in New York and a Ph.D. in Psychology and Theology from the University of Chicago. He taught at Southern Methodist University and the University of Texas. He has received numerous awards and also received an honorary doctorate for his internationally renowned work with couples.

Harville and Helen have co-authored 10 books, including the #1 Bestseller, Getting the Love You Wantt;
Receiving Love: Transform Your Relationship by Letting Yourself Be Loved
In 2013 they published a new book for couples and anyone interested in relationship: Making Marriage Simple: Ten Truths for Changing the Relationship You Have into the One You Want.

Harville Hendrix Helen LaKelly Hunt

Helen LaKelly Hunt, Ph.D. in addition to contributing to the theory, books and development of Imago Relationship Therapy, has been very involved in the women's movement. Her most recent individual book is Faith and Feminism: A Holy Allianceabout women who combine their faith with their feminist beliefs to create a more just world for all. Helen is the founder and president of The Sister Fund which is "dedicated to the social, political, economic, and spiritual empowerment of women and girls." Helen has been active in the women's movement for over 25 years and was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame for her philanthropy dedicated to helping girls and women, and has received other recognition and awards for her work. More recently she, with her sister, launched Women Moving Millions to promote giving to funding for the empowerment of girls and women. Their goal is to fund projects not only in the United States, but around the world.

Together Harville and Helen have written numerous books on relationships, created the Getting the Love You Want workshops for couples, and continue to actively participate with other master therapists in the development of the theory and techniques of Imago Relationship Therapy. Imago Relationship Therapy has spread around the world as therapists and couples discover the depth and effectiveness of the skills and tools that allow individuals and couples to address the roots that fuel conflict, fear, disconnection and self-protection.

Helen and Harville both love spending time with their 6 children and numerous grandchildren.
